Back in Time II (Barber Shop and Bakery)

Finally I found a nice looking barber shop with an owner willing to pose and a friendly pastry cook, so at least one half of the assignment was accomplished. I am happy with the result, specially the barbershop, unfortunately I didn't have time to scan the other shot I did at the barbershop.

Again these photos were taken with my rollei and the old flash. I wanted to emulate the look of the photographs of August Sander, so I tried to show the workers posing, looking at the camera and sourrounded by their enviroment.

I like the pose but unfortunately it is hard to tell it is a bakery.

Back in time I (Library and Record Store)

First results of the "old film camera - old flash" team. Definitely I am planning of using just film for this assignment, so it will be easier to emulate the photos of Sander and Evans.

I won't have the time to do the project I wanted for this Wednesday. I will post it next week if I finish it. However here are some shots I did on the last days.

Not quite happy with these photos since they don't really are a project but that is the price to pay when you are lazy and it is the end of the term.

Bakery and Barbershop

Well... not really a barbershop or bakery shot but rather a record store, and even if it may seem old at first with the LPs hanging on the wall the PC is too present.

First try with flash in an environmental portrait. Not happy at all. More to come soon (hopefully.)

Camera Works

I thought that the final project for camera works was due next week. Silly me! So I started working on the project, which is a test for bigger project that has been on my mind since we did the stop motion and painting with light. The project will involve demons, dreams and a woman. :D

Flash assignment

It was really fun discovering the potential of the use of flash. Four sessions for four images.

The Bruce Gilden challenge

Inspired by Bruce Gilden I decided to give a try with the flash a little closer. Basically I was carrying a Sunpak flash with the hot shoe trigger in one hand and using the on camera flash to trigger it. So that is the reason you may see double catchlights on the people. I was surprised how easy it can come once you gather the guts to flash people closer. Only I have to be more careful next time on where I place the flash to give more interesting shadows.

More fun exploring the possibilities of the flash used on street photography.

Not the perfect composition, but I was trying to get the guy who was close to me lit with my on camera flash as a fill in, the people on the back lit with the sun and the guy at the end with the external flash, although it resulted on too bright guy .

Some people have asked me how i did it. So here is a photo including the flash. (Just ignore the awful post that is growing on the girl's head)
